Stephen Lewis, who’s most known for his role as Blakey on ’70s sitcom On the Buses, has died “quite peacefully” in a London nursing home, the BBC reports. He was 88.

The English actor performed on London’s West End before appearing on On the Buses, which ran in the U.K. from 1969 to 1973. He went on to star in three On the Buses spin-off films — On the Buses, Mutiny on the Buses, and Holiday on the Buses — along with a number of other television series including Don’t Drink the Water and Oh Doctor Beeching!.

Most recently, Lewis appeared in Last of the Summer Wine in various episodes between 1988 and 2007.
