Drag Me Down,” One Direction’s first single from their forthcoming album, has been topping charts since it debuted last month. Now, Shawn Mendes, the 17-year-old Vine star-turned-YouTuber-turned-pop star, has given it an acoustic makeover.

Set against a black and white back drop, Mendes tells fans, “I hope you like it.” They certainly did. Soon after he released the track Wednesday night, #ShawnsNewCover began trending.

“Drag Me Down” was One Direction’s first song recorded without Zayn Malik, who left the band in March, and showed fans the progression of the band’s sound. “Obviously it’s different … but it’s still going great, and that’s what this album is about,” Liam Payne said while introducing the song on Good Morning America. The band’s next album is due out this fall.
