The announcement last month that director Christopher Nolan’s new movie is a short film about the Quay Brothers sparked a lot of people to ponder the following question: who exactly are the Quay Brothers?

The short answer is that they are twin animators, Stephen and Timothy Quay. Interested parties will receive a more fulsome explanation by attending one of the dates on the forthcoming 11-city theatrical tour, The Quay Brothers in 35mm. The tour kicks off with a week-long run at New York’s Film Forum. starting Aug. 19. The opening night of which will be attended by Nolan and the Quays and will also be the world premiere of the Interstellar director’s film, Quay.

In addition to Quay, each date on the tour will feature new 35mm prints of three films by the brothers (1986’s Street of Crocodiles, 1991’s The Comb, 2000’s In Absentia). More details about the tour can be found at the the official website of Zeitgeist Films.

The tour will be followed by the Oct. 20 release of a Blu-ray, The Quay Brothers: Collected Short Films, which includes 15 Quay shorts and Nolan’s film.
