Freddy Krueger might be starring in your movie nightmares once more. EW has confirmed that New Line is in the early stages of development of a new Nightmare on Elm Street film, hiring David Leslie Johnson (Orphan) to pen an update on the landmark horror franchise. The story was first reported by The Wrap.
The Nightmare on Elm Street films (the first released in 1984) put New Line on the Hollywood map and gave Robert Englund his iconic slasher role as the child murderer who finds a villainous afterlife by turning up in the bad dreams of his victims. Director Samuel Bayer previously attempted to reboot Wes Craven’s brainchild with a 2010 remake that starred Rooney Mara and featured Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) as Freddy.
No word yet on who might wear Freddy’s glove this time out.
