'Minority Report' changes Washington Redskins name
Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder may refuse to change his team’s name.
But Fox’s sci-fi thriller Minority Report is making the change for him.
In the D.C.-set fall series, the Washington NFL team’s name has been changed to Red Clouds, the show’s executive producer Max Borenstein told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills on Thursday. The name is reference to Red Cloud, a 19th century Native America leader.
The Washington Redskins have come under increasing fire in recent years for its name and logo that many find offensive to Native Americans. Minority Report isbased on the 2002 film by Steven Spielberg and the director executive produces the series as well. The show is set 15 years after the film in the year 2065. Snyder has been adament that the team’s name will remain unchanged, but Minority Report has a pretty good track record of making accurate predictions—the film rather successfully depicted several tech evolutions, from self-driving cars to individually targeted advertising.
