George Cole, who starred on the popular British series Minder, has died. He was 90. Cole’s agent confirmed the news of the actor’s death to BBC News.

Cole became a household name to British viewers thanks to his nearly 16-year run playing the criminal and con man Arthur Daley on the series about the seedy London underworld. But Minder wasn’t the only project in which Cole won audiences; he also made his mark as Flash Harry in the St. Trinian’s films, a British comedy based on the Ronald Searles cartoons about an all girls boarding school.

The actor was 70 by the time Minder finished, but had been steadily taking film roles before landing the series. He acted opposite Lawrence Olivier in The Demi-Paradise in the early 1940s, played Flavius in 1963’s Cleopatra alongside Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, and showed off his comedic talents further in 1959’s Too Many Crooks. Aside from a three-year service in the 1940s with the Royal Air Force, Cole spent about seven decades acting in both film and television.
