Ohhhhh,” went the TV critics when the question was asked.

ABC’s prolific hitmaker Shonda Rhimes, and several cast members from the writer-producer’s Thursday night dramas were on stage at the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour on Tuesday afternoon when a reporter asked the team: “If she had campaign manager hat on, how would [Scandal’s D.C. crisis manager] Olivia Pope handle Donald Trump?”

“Do you think she would tell him to do something about the hair?” Rhimes suggested to Kerry Washington, who plays Pope.

“We have a really good hair department on the show,” Washington said.

Then Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo (who plays Dr. Meredith Grey) chimed in, with a quote that lit up Twitter: “You could send him over to Meredith and I could cut his vocal cords out.”

That got a reaction in the room.

Washington then toned it down: “We’ve had characters say outrageous things on our show, so it wouldn’t be out of the question for somebody who says outrageous things to be on our show.”

Full TCA coverage.

Meredith. Alex. Bailey. The doctors are definitely in on Shonda Rhimes' hospital melodrama.
