The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse will be down another member when Sleepy Hollow returns this fall: The Headless Horseman, otherwise known as Ichabod’s old pal Abraham, will not play a role in the show’s third season. New showrunner Clifton Campbell broke the news to

“There won’t be any Headless this year,” Campbell revealed. In the place of actor Neil Jackson will be a new big bad, whom Campbell says will “allow us to see a somewhat more compelling, but more personal threat to both Abbie [Nicole Beharie] and Crane [Tom Mison].”

To aid in the fight, Sleepy Hollow will also be bringing back Joe Corbin (Zach Appelman), the son of Abbie’s deceased mentor. Last seen when the Witnesses helped cure him from being a Wendigo, Corbin will return to pair up with Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood).

“Jenny and Joe are going to track down a lot of things that are going to help Abbie and Crane, and in doing so really do a deep dive on their past and their connections to each other,” Campbell says.

It’s the latest in a series of shake-ups to the show’s cast: Regulars Orlando Jones, Katia Winter, and John Noble all departed at the end of season 2. New additions include Shannyn Sossamon (Wayward Pines) and Twilight‘s Nikki Reed as Betsy Ross.
