Is Cole Lockhart going to find happiness of his own in the upcoming season of The Affair? Maybe!
EW has exclusively learned that the cuckolded spouse, played by Joshua Jackson — whose wife Alison (Ruth Wilson) left him for charming novelist Noah Solloway (Dominic West) last season — has a new love interest of his own, played by Catalina Sandino Moreno. Moreno is best known for her film debut in Maria Full of Grace (2004), for which she was nominated for an Oscar.
Moreno plays Luisa, an “independent and spirited” woman who illegally emigrated from Ecuador as a child and is now working her way through school.
It’s unclear how Cole and Luisa meet — or how she handles the fact that Alison is still very much in the picture — but this season will not only be told from the point of view of Alisona and Noah, but also Cole and Noah’s ex-wife Helen (Maura Tierney), so we should get a good sense of what Luisa truly means to Cole. Can she replace Alison? Can she help Cole heal from the loss of both his child and his wife?
It’s a tall order, but we’ll tune in to find out.
The Affair returns to Showtime on Sunday Oct. 4 at 10 p.m. ET.
