To quote Leslie Knope: “Democracy is not unlike a cake. It’s layered, delicious, chocolate, and I want some.” Thankfully, you all have certainly served it up! The polls for EW’s 8th annual EWwy Awards have been open for just a week now, and some races (particularly those in the comedy category) are so tight, we felt they warranted a closer look. Here are a few of the tasty details:

  • Best Comedy Series: Fox’s (or should we say Hulu’s?) The Mindy Project is in the lead — but just by a baby bump. Because only a few votes behind is The CW’s freshman darling Jane the Virgin, followed in a distant third by Fox’s apocalyptic sitcom Last Man on Earth. Who will get the last laugh when polls close?
  • Best Actress, Comedy: Jane (a.k.a. Gina Rodriguez) plays second fiddle once again, this time to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s Ellie Kemper. We’ll keep it impartial, but suffice it to say we’re primed and ready to pour a glass of peeno noir in celebration, if need be …
  • Best Suporting Actress, Comedy: This funny-lady race isn’t quite so close, as Saturday Night Live‘s Aidy Bryant is off to quick start. (She is a back-home baller, after all.) But Fresh Off the Boat actress Constance Wu simply won’t be ignored. And we’d expect nothing less.
  • Best Supporting Actor, Comedy: And, finally, a category Leslie Knope would be proud of. The two men at the top of this heap are among Pawnee’s finest: Parks and Recreation actors Chris Pratt and Nick Offerman. Unfortunately, a vote for both is … futile. So time to make some tough decisions!

You can keep voting for your comedy and drama favorites until polls close on August 7 — with the winners announced August 11. Mmmm, yummy democracy!
