Deer Tick’s “Grandfather Song” didn’t make the cut for their 2013 album Negativity — but now fans can hear it here on EW before it’s released as part of Amazon Acoustics, a playlist from Amazon that features a combination of original songs and covers.
“It didn’t wind up on the record, so I decided to revisit it recently and I finished the song in my spare time at home in Nashville,” Deer Tick frontman John McCauley told EW about the song.
“Grandfather Song” will appear on Amazon Acoustics alongside songs from 30 different artists. The compilation features a St. Vincent cover by the Walkmen’s Peter Matthew Bauer, a David Bowie cover by the Districts, and original songs by Hey Marseilles and Ron Sexsmith, among others. Listen to the track below, and hear the entire playlist when it premieres exclusively on Amazon Music July 31.
