Black Mass will debut at Venice Film Festival
Scott Cooper’s Black Mass, which stars Johnny Depp as notorious mobster Whitey Bulger, will make its debut at this year’s Venice Film Festival. The Warner Bros. release will screen out of competition on Sept. 4.
“He could be charming. He could be ruthless. He was like a cobra—you never knew where he could strike,” Cooper told EW earlier this year of Bulger, who was on the FBI’s most-wanted list for a decade before his arrest in 2011. Now 85, Bulger is currently serving two life sentences plus five years for his participation in 11 murders and other illegal activities.
Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dakota Johnson, Kevin Bacon and Corey Stoll co-star in Black Mass, which arrives in U.S. theaters on Sept. 18. Watch the trailer below.
