Film fans who are lucky enough to make it out to Park City, Utah in January tend to spend the rest of the year waiting for the best of Sundance to hit screens near them, and Marielle Heller’s The Diary of a Teenage Girl is undoubtedly one of the movies they’ve been waiting for.

There’s been plenty of praise for the indie coming-of-age story, most of which centers on Bel Powley as an undeniable breakout talent of this year’s fest.

Before Diary of a Teenage Girl finally hits theaters on Aug. 7, you can watch an exclusive clip from the movie that features both Powley and Kristen Wiig. The SNL alum plays the mother of Powley’s Minnie and isn’t afraid to dish out some not-quite-feminist advice to her daughter.
