Grace of Monaco Emmy nominations: Internet LOLz
The biggest surprise Emmy nomination this year? Maybe Grace of Monaco. The biopic about Grace Kelly with Nicole Kidman in a starring role made its television debut on Lifetime in May to mostly negative reviews, but wound up scoring a nomination for Outstanding Television Movie on Thursday, where it will compete against Agatha Christie’s Poirot: Curtain, Poirot’s Last Case, Bessie, Hello Ladies: The Movie, Killing Jesus and Nightingale.
Grace of Monaco opened the 2014 Cannes Film Festival and was roundly jeered by critics and audiences. Originally set for a theatrical release by The Weinstein Company, the movie eventually found its way to Lifetime. During its debut, Grace of Monaco screenwriter Arash Amel tweeted behind-the-scenes stories about the production, including insight on the battles waged with director Olivier Dahan over the final product.
On Twitter, reactions to the Grace of Monaco Emmy nomination were of the O_O variety.
