Whit Stillman’s Metropolitan was released 25 years ago, and to celebrate the anniversary, Rialto Pictures will re-release the classic comedy in limited release this August. In anticipation, the studio has re-vamped the film’s original trailer for modern times: that means an HD presentation of lavish New York debutante life in the 1980s.

“You’d think that Metropolitan might look even more relevant now than it did at the time, given that Gossip Girl culture is at its lavish, moneyed, backbiting height,” former EW critic Owen Gleiberman wrote while revisiting the film for its 20th anniversary. “But Stillman’s characters remain, more than ever, their own highly specific creations. Even though plenty of rich kids have come and gone since, they’re the last of a breed. I’m glad I finally got to know them.”

Metropolitan is out in New York on Aug. 7 at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center and in Los Angeles on Aug. 14 at the Laemmle Royal. An expansion to select cities nationwide will follow soon after. Check out the trailer below.
