As a city, Gotham is full of questionable characters and sometimes more questionable cops. But there’s one detective determined to take them all down: Jim Gordon. But before we learn about Jim’s upcoming season 2 journey at Saturday’s Comic-Con panel, here’s a refresher on where we left that oh-so-dark city.

Where we left off: Maroni is dead. Falcone claims he’s giving up the mob life. And Fish Mooney is dead … we think. Furthermore, Barbara killed her parents and then tried to do the same to Jim’s new love, Leslie, and the Penguin claims he’s now king of Gotham. And then there’s precious Bruce Wayne, who ended the season by discovering that his father was a secretive man with a secret lair that has definite batcave potential.

What we know about season 2: Fish Mooney could be alive, but she’s probably dead. All we know for sure is that Jada Pinkett Smith is no longer a series regular. So with Mooney and Maroni out of the way, that leaves room for new villains to surface, which is exactly what they’ll do. The show has teased that this season will involve the Joker — who was introduced last season — Mr. Freeze, Clayface, and The Mad Hatter. So yeah, this city is never going to feel safe again … not that it ever did.

Comic-Con burning question: Anything and everything pertaining to the Joker.
