Bradley Cooper wasn’t in attendance at Comic-Con on Thursday, but he certainly made an impression on fans by taping a short introduction for the pilot screening of the upcoming television adaptation of his 2011 film Limitless.
In the original film, Cooper (an executive producer on the CBS drama) played a struggling writer who developed super-human abilities thanks to a mysterious drug called NZT, which turned out to have deadly side effects.
The series (which, like the film, is based on the 2001 book The Dark Fields by Alan Glynn) follows a man named Brian Finch (Jake McDorman), who discovers the brain-boosting power of NZT and is coerced by the FBI into using his extraordinary cognitive abilities to solve complex cases for them alongside Special Agent Rebecca Harris (Jennifer Carpenter), who has a history with NZT.
Based on reactions from Twitter and in the room, Limitless was met with a mostly positive response. The audience was particularly and pleasantly surprised by Cooper’s cameo, which drew hearty applause from the crowd. Here’s a sample of responses, culled from both media pros and everyday fans:
Limitless premieres Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
