Marvel and ESPN Films have teamed up for a new short-film series that will explore the beginnings of the closest thing we have to actual super-powered humans: professional athletes.

1 of 1 — Origins is a series of films that will investigate the real origin stories of the world’s most successful athletes, in a style combining ESPN’s documentary and interview approach with Marvel’s art, design and animation.

The first film — centered on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick — will premiere on the Friday episode of the sports talk show His & Hers from San Diego Comic-Con. The rest of the premiere schedule is as follows:

Soccer pro Brandi Chastain – July 13

Baseball player Bryce Harper – July 13

NBA player Dwight Howard – July 14

Snowboarder Amy Purdy – July 15

Golf pro Phil Mickelson – July 15

Racecar driver Danica Patrick – July 16

Skater Tony Hawk – July 17

All eight films, directed by Eric Drath, will have TV premieres and a digital release on the ESPN 30 for 30 Facebook page the same day. Watch the trailer above.
