It’s been almost two years since we said goodbye to the TV version of serial killer killing serial killer (say that five times fast) Dexter Morgan, but as far as Jeff Lindsay’s Dexter book series is concerned, he’s still been cavorting around his blood spattered universe—until now

Today, July 7, the final book in the series, titled Dexter Is Dead, hits shelves. This last installment sees Dexter arrested for murder—ironically, one he didn’t commit—after losing his wife, his kids and his sister’s loyalty. His last chance at freedom is in his brother’s hands: And Brian has a dark, high-stakes plan to prove Dexter’s innocence.

Lindsay’s publisher, Knopf Doubleday, invites fans to post their own eulogies for Dexter on the author’s Facebook page.
