As of Wednesday night, Billy Joel has performed at New York’s Madison Square Garden 65 times, more than any other artist.

Joel beats out friend, fellow musician and occasional tourmate Elton John, who previously held the record with 64 performances. According to the Associated Press, Joel took some time out of Wednesday’s set to honor John with a rendition of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”: “He’s a good man and a good friend,” Joel said, “and I’d like to dedicate this song to him.”

The Garden celebrated Joel by hanging a banner in the arena in his honor, and actor Kevin James came on stage to introduce the dedication.

Joel kicked off his residency at Madison Square Garden in January 2014 and has been performing there at least once a month ever since. See his upcoming tour dates on his website.
