Nate Rathbun, the 23-year-old, Grammy-nominated progressive house/trance artist who produces music under the moniker Audien topped the charts this March with his tune “Insomnia,” featuring Parson James. (You may be familiar with James from his Kygo collaboration, “Stole The Show.”) And he’s looking to do so again with his much-hyped collaboration with country superstars Lady Antebellum.

When asked about the pairing, both Rathbun and Lady A’s Charles Kelley speak to a shared desire to stretch against any musical constraints. “With ‘Something Better’ I wanted to push boundaries,” Rathbun says. “The song lends itself perfectly to call and response vocals and anthemic harmonies. Lady Antebellum aren’t just some of the best voices in country music, but in overall music. It was a shot in the dark, but fortunately they felt as passionately about the song’s uplifting theme as I did. The result is simply my favorite thing I’ve ever done.”

Kelley echoes, saying, “Working with someone like Audien puts us a little outside of our comfort zone, but as a band, we’ve always been up for trying different things. The first time we heard the song we knew we wanted to be part of it. We were immediately drawn to its great melody and powerful lyric.”

This isn’t Lady Antebellum’s first dip in the dance pool—they performed a mashup with EDM superstar Zedd earlier this month at the CMT Awards—but that doesn’t take away from this (somewhat) surprising collaboration’s awesomeness. “Something Better” is streaming below.

Audien is currently on tour, playing clubs and festivals across Europe and the United States—a full list of dates are available on his website.

Lady Antebellum is out on their Wheels Up Tour through the summer with Sam Hunt, Hunter Hayes, and select dates with Kelsea Ballerini opening the show.
