Cheryl Burke, Thomas Roberts quit hosting gigs in Miss USA Pageant

Two more hosts are dropping out of the 64th Annual Miss USA Pageant.

Cheryl Burke announced on Tuesday that she won’t emcee the July 12 pageant in Louisiana, which no longer has a broadcast partner. NBC confirms Thomas Roberts (MSNBC Live with Thomas Roberts) is withdrawing from Miss USA too.

“In light of the recent statements made by Donald Trump and the subsequent decision by NBC to cut ties with Mr. Trump, I cannot in good conscience move forward with participating in this year’s Miss USA Pageant as its co-host,” the ex-Dancing with the Stars pro said in a statement. “Effective today I have withdrawn from my duties with Miss USA. Although I will not be there in person, I wish all of the contestants much luck as I know how hard they’ve all been working over the last year to try and realize their dreams.”

Burke is currently a star on NBC’s I Can Do That, so it makes sense that she would follow suit with the Peacock by cutting ties with the pageant and its co-owner, Donald Trump. This would have marked Burke’s first time hosting the pageant.

Last week, Roselyn Sánchez and Cristián De La Fuente, who were set to co-host the Spanish-language simulcast of the show for Univision, dropped out in the wake of Trump’s statement about Mexican immigrants. Univision ended up dumping the pageant that it was going to simulcast in Spanish for the first time.

NBC, which dropped the pageant Monday, has already found a timeslot replacement for the day it would have aired. The plan is to telecast American Ninja Warrior.

Trump is threatening to sue NBC for announcing they would no longer air his beauty pageants.
