Following a selfie stick related incident that shut down Disney California Adventure’s California Screamin’ roller coaster for an hour on Wednesday, Disney has anounced that selfie sticks will be banned from its theme parks. The ban goes into effect on June 30 at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort, with parks in Paris and Hong Kong following on July 1.

“We strive to provide a great experience for the entire family, and unfortunately selfie-sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast,” said Disney World spokesperson Kim Prunty.

Disney had previously banned selfie sticks on all rides and attractions, with cast members instructed to give a verbal warning to anyone who broke the rules.
