CeeLo Green has been off the grid since September when he posted controversial tweets after pleading no contest to a felony count of furnishing ecstasy to a woman in 2012. There have been no judge turns on The Voice—just one appearance—and no real murmurs of a new record since last fall. Until now.
Heart Blanche, Green’s fifth solo studio album, is set for a late 2015 release, Atlantic Records CEO Craig Kallman tells Billboard.
“We’re actually in the final stages of completing his album. He’s really been hard at work,” Kallman told Billboard on Tuesday. “We’ve got a big, big list of songs that we’ve been going through, and we’re kind of mixing the final songs now.” Kallman teased Mark Ronson and Charlie Pugh as just a pair of the many collaborators on the record. Green’s manager swung bigger with his comments on its quality, especially when “Git Up Git Out” and “Crazy” exist.
“It’s arguably the best piece of work he’s ever done,” Larry Mestel told Billboard. “It’s very rare to find artists these days that focus on an album as a body of work—most albums these days are just collections of songs, but that’s not the case here.”
Beyond a fourth quarter 2015 release, there’s no other information on Heart Blanche or its possible singles.
