  • Michael Shannon and Carla Gugino are set to star in the Bart Freundlich-directed indie film Wolves. In the film newcomer Taylor John Smith plays an 18-year-old basketball star being recruited by Cornell University. He has everything going for him as a good student and captain of his team with a steady girlfriend. But he has trouble at home with his gambling addict of a father (Shannon). His mother (Gugino) attempts to keep the family steady but in doing so must sacrifice so much emotionally and financially. Principal photography begins this week in New York.   • Gabriel Bateman (Stalker) will lead New Line’s horror film Lights Out. The film centers around a supernatural entity that is attacking a family, requiring someone to take a stand to protect them from the threat that “can be seen only when the lights go out.” [Variety]

  • Jason Mantzoukas is in negotiations to join Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler in their New Line comedy pic The House. The story is about a man (Ferrell) who teams up with his neighbors to start an illegal casino in his own basement after he and his wife (Poehler) blow all of their daughter’s college savings fund.   • Nia Long has boarded Keanu, the first film pairing comedy duo Key & Peele. Long will be playing the wife Keegan-Michael Key‘s character in this film about a group of friends who attempt to retrieve their stolen cat by posing as drug dealers. Jordan Peele and Alex Ruben penned the script for the film, which has an April 22, 2016 release date. [Deadline]

  • Jason Momoa, Thomas Middleditch and Famke Janssen are all in negotiations to join Bruce Willis in an untitled action comedy directed by Mark and Robb Cullen. In the film Willis plays an LA private detective whose dog is stolen by a gang, causing his professional and personal worlds to crossover. Momoa would play a gang leader who has Willis’ dog and forces the detective to do jobs for him. Middleditch would play a geeky guy working inside Willis’ one-man operation. Janssen will portray Willis’ sister-in-law. The film is looking to start shooting in late June in Los Angeles. [The Hollywood Reporter]
