Receiving a knighthood has the to be the coolest recognition. Which means, somehow, Van Morrison is even cooler now. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriter’s Hall of Fame inductee was knighted Friday, the United Kingdom’s highest honor. So that’s Sir Van Morrison, from now on.

“We are thrilled to hear the momentous news that Van Morrison has received such a prestigious and well deserved honor today,” RCA Records executives Peter Edge and Tom Corson said in a statement. “All of us at RCA are wishing him a heartfelt congratulations.”

If that weren’t enough of an honor, Morrison will be given the Johnny Mercer Award at the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame gala on Thursday in New York City. Sometimes you have to take a night out for a “Moondance” and enjoy life. Sir Van probably is.
