Denis Leary: Joan Jett cameo in 'Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll' is great
Newly minted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Joan Jett will guest star on episode 3 of Denis Leary’s Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, the actor confirmed in an interview with EW Live on Friday at the ATX Festival in Austin, Texas.
“I knew Joan because we had done some concerts together for the Michael J. Fox Foundation,” Leary told host Jessica Shaw. “I had met Joan there many times. She’s a good actress, obviously, she’s very busy. But I just thought this is kind of perfect. She agreed to do it.”
As Leary explained, the episode focuses on an Internet rumor about his character, an aging rock star who flamed out in the early ’90s, having died.
“You just forget because we’re in the middle of production even on that episode. We’re doing another couple of things for a couple of days, and Joan shows up and we’re just hanging out with Joan Jett,” Leary said. Last year, the actor posted a picture to Twitter from the set of Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll with Jett front and center.
As for Jett’s acting prowess, Leary said he gave her leeway “to do whatever she wanted,” but that she kept improvisation to one sequence: a part where she’s being interviewed.
