London to host 3-day 'Doctor Who' festival
Doctor Who fans in America should make sure that their passports are in order—and their fezes nicely buffed. Why? Because BBC Worldwide has announced that the Time Lord himself, Peter Capaldi, is set to attend an official Doctor Who festival which will take place at London’s ExCeL Exhibition Centre on Nov. 13, 14, and 15. The ExCeL also hosted the Doctor Who 50th Celebration Weekend, back in 2013.
“If having the world’s favourite Time Lord back on screen every week isn’t enough for you (and it’s not for me), then The Doctor Who Festival in London is the place to be,” Capaldi said in a statement. “I’ll be heading there in November to join the fun, and if it’s anything like the 50th anniversary event, then prepare yourself for total Time Lord mania.”
According to a release from BBC Worldwide, visitors to the event will be able to “explore an exciting array of backstage areas including theatre shows involving key talent, Interactive Workshops and ‘the ultimate Doctor Who shopping village’ offering photo opportunities and a vast range of merchandise.”
Doctor Who executive producer Steven Moffat will also be attending the event. “I can’t believe we’re going to give away our secrets!” Moffat was quoted as saying. “This is the closest you could possibly get to finding out what happens on set and how this magical show is put together.”
In other Doctor Who news, actress Rebecca Front will guest in the two-part adventure which kicks off the new season of the long-running time travel show when it returns this fall. Front’s credits include the Capaldi-starring political sitcom The Thick of It, the British forerunner of Veep. Previously announced guests appearing in the new season include Maisie Williams from Game of Thrones and the returning Michelle Gomez.
