Macbeth trailer offers first extended look at Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in lead roles

The debut teaser trailer for Justin Kurzel’s adaptation of Shakepeare’s Macbeth, starring Michael Fassbender in the titular role and Marion Cottilard as Lady Macbeth, offers a dark look at the upcoming film. Kurzel’s version, at least in the trailer, strips anyway any of the more regal proceedings (though we’ve seen hints of that aspect of the film from earlier stills), delivering an earthy, rough quality to the treachorous world Macbeth and Lady Macbeth navigate.

Macbeth, which debuted at Cannes, does not have a U.S. release date yet, but is set to hit theaters in the U.K. on Oct. 2.
