It’s back on, baby!
Lifetime has set a June 20 airdate for A Deadly Adoption, a quasi-parody of soapy thrillers that stars Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig. Billboards touting the “high stakes dramatic thriller” will begin popping up throughout Los Angeles to promote the film about a husband (Ferrell) and wife (Wiig) who take a woman (90210’s Jessica Lowndes) in the final months of her pregnancy so they can adopt her baby — only to have the situation spiral completely out of control.
The project from Ferrell and Adam McKay was meant to be kept under wraps, but was leaked in April by a trade website. The unexpected reveal riled Ferrell so much that he and Wiig released this statement to Entertainment Weekly: “We are deeply disappointed that our planned top secret project was made public. Kristen and I have decided it is in the best interest for everyone to forego the project entirely, and we thank Lifetime and all the people who were ready to help up make this film.”
The premiere of A Deadly Adoption coincides with the 25th anniversary of Lifetime’s movie franchise. It was written by Andrew Steeler, who co-created IFC’s The Spoils of Babylon, which starred Ferrell and Wiig.
