The year of Shonda Rhimes continues with a book deal. Simon & Schuster announced on Tuesday that Rhimes, the creator of Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy and executive producer of How to Get Away With Murder, would put out her first book, Year of Yes, with the publishing house in November.
According to a statement, the book will document how saying “yes” to everything for an entire year set Rhimes on a path to major success.
“Saying yes for an entire year turned out to be one of the most amazing decisions I have ever made,” Rhimes said in a statement. “It was also a little insane, a lot terrifying and sometimes wildly embarrassing. So this is not a story I ever planned to share with anyone. However, once Simon & Schuster asked me, I had no choice—what else could I say but yes?”
The showrunner has spoken about her year of yes before, and in an interview with her alma mater Dartmouth’s alumni magazine, she said, “My New Year’s resolution was to say yes to the things that scare me.” One of those things included giving the college’s 2014 commencement speech. Another was her cameo on The Mindy Project as a beer-pong champion.
“It’s mind-boggling that the mega-talented Shonda Rhimes, one of the most admired and accomplished women in Hollywood, would feel the need to challenge her status quo,” Simon & Schuster Vice President and Editor-in-Chief Marysue Rucci said. “But by saying yes for a year, she truly transformed her life for the better in every way.”
