Off the soundtrack he is executive producing, and from the film he was at one point in talks to star in, Eminem has dropped “Phenomenal,” the first single off the Southpaw collection. The heavy-hitting tune is the first single—the entire album will be available on the same date as the movie releases, July 24.

In a release, Shady Records President Paul Rosenberg said, “We have been involved in developing Southpaw since its inception and Eminem has dedicated himself to ensuring that this film captured his passion for the project through his music. We’ve assembled a great soundtrack to accompany what’s sure to be one of the finest boxing films ever.” Shady Records is co-releasing the collection with Interscope.

Eminem has probably never been accused of having a project that lacks passion, and so far the first tune stands up to Rosenberg’s promise—you might even say its name is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
