After Ireland passed its historic vote to legalize same-sex marriage, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling used her Twitter account to praise the move, and also joke about Professor Dumbledore marrying Lord of the Rings wizard Gandalf.

Rowling’s good-humored bit of fan-fic was not accepted by all, however — notably the Westboro Baptist Church. The extremist group, known for its hate speech, tweeted that it would protest such a union between those fictional characters.

To which Rowling replied:

After some fans took issue with Rowling giving any attention to the WBC, she explained why it was important for her to hit back.
