In March, we told you to get prepared for The Water Knife, Paolo Bacigalupi’s first adult novel since The Windup Girl. Now, the National Book Award finalist’s latest is finally here. The American Southwest is in the midst of a crippling drought, but detective/spy/assassin Angel Velasquez “cuts” water for his boss—the rich can still quench their thirst, while the poor choke on dry dirt. When rumors of a secret water source in Phoenix spring up, Velasquez is sent to investigate, and bloody conflict ensues across the Southwest.
