The final Late Show with David Letterman included four U.S. presidents, 10 big-name cameos, and Foo Fighters, but it was a personal moment that might have trumped them all. As David Letterman said his final goodbyes—giving praise to his long-time staffers behind the scenes—he introduced his wife, Regina, and son, Harry.
“Look at that kid!” Letterman said as the audience gave the pair a prolonged ovation. “Just seriously, thank you for being my family. I love you both, and really, nothing else matters, does it?”
But as with everything else on the final Late Show, Letterman followed the sentimental moment with a small zinger.
“Before the show, Harry wanted me to introduce his buddy Tommy Roboto,” Letterman said, as the camera showed a young boy sitting next to his son. “Tommy, right there. There’s Tommy. Go get ’em, Tommy!”
