Edward Zwick is in serious talks to reunite with Tom Cruise for the next Jack Reacher film for Paramount. The Hollywood Reporter initially posted that Zwick, who directed Cruise in The Last Samurai in 2003, would adapt and direct a film based on Lee Child’s novel Never Go Back as a sequel to the 2012 Reacher film that grossed $80.1 million.

The Last Samurai was a 19th-century period epic that made $111.1 million in the U.S. and more than three times as much internationally. “We had a very good experience together, and when you’ve had a good experience together, you are drawn to try to capture lightning in a bottle again,” Zwick says, confirming the reports.

Zwick most recently directed Pawn Sacrifice, the Bobby Fischer movie starring Tobey Maguire that is expected this September.
