  • Jack Black is reteaming with his Nacho Libre director Jared Hess to play the lovable oddball in the comedy Micronations. The film is set in the world of do-it-yourself countries, which are inhabited by eccentrics and visionaries who declare their own backyards to be sovereign nations. Black’s character finds himself recruited as Head of Defense for Valoria, a nation with a population of 12, and is stuck in a battle with a neighboring nation, Wayne County, NV. [Deadline]
  • Tom Sizemore is joining Nicolas Cage in the World War II movie USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage. Cage will play Capt. Charles Butler McVay, whose ship was torpedoed in July 1945 in the South Pacific after it delivered parts for the first atomic bombs. The mission was set as classified, so the Indianapolis was not reported missing until four days later. Only 317 sailors survived, and McVay was court-martialed, then exonerated more than half a century later. [Variety]
  • Patrick St. Esprit (Hunger Games: Catching Fire) will play the Secretary of Defense next to Sela Ward’s President in the Roland Emmerich-directed Independence Day 2. The sequel is set for a June 24, 2016 release. Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe and Jessie Usher will star along with cast members from the original including Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A.   • Stephen Root (Office Space) will play Zac Efron and Adam DeVine’s father in the comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. The story follows two party-animal brothers who make an online ad for wedding dates, only to meet their match in characters played by Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza.   • Jon Dore, Oscar-nominated actor David Paymer (Mr. Saturday Night), Lynn Cohen (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and Eric Edelstein (Jurassic World) will star in the indie comedy The Pickle Recipe. Michael . Dore will star as a down-on-his-luck party emcee who’s desperate for cash and is coerced by his uncle (Paymer) to steal his grandmother’s (Cohen) secret pickle recipe.   • John Gallagher Jr. (The Newsroom) will star in the thriller The Belko Experiment, the story of an American company in South America that is “mysteriously sealed off at the beginning of a workday, and its employees are ordered to kill each other or be killed themselves. This starts an escalation of violence, where we discover the true nature of each and every [Belko] employee.” The film is gearing up to start production in Bogota, Colombia. [The Wrap]
