Nick Jonas has spent the better part of 2015 at awards shows. At least that’s what it feels like: Jonas hosted and performed at the MTV Kids Choice Awards, hit the stage with Dan + Shay at the 50th annual ACM Awards, was on the bill at the iHeart Music Awards and attended the Grammys. Now, on Sunday night, he’ll appear at the Billboard Music Awards to sing “Jealous”—but don’t expect to see anything but excitement when Jonas takes the stage.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of the show and really excited of this performance,” he says to EW. “It’s really different from any performance I’ve ever done—I wanted to showcase my musicianship. A lot of what I’ve done in this new chapter is just me singing—which I love, but you know, I wanted to take it to another level with the guitar.”

As for why he’s looking forward to the Billboard Muisc Awards, he tells us it’s the show itself. “It’s really a celebration of the last year of music,” he says. “It’s about the community coming together and recognizing the accomplishments of some of the artists—and what a great year its been.”

That’s evident in the show’s heavy performance roster, which includes artists across all genres. “Kelly Clarkson is one that I always enjoy watching, she has such a great voice. And the Little Big Town-Faith Hill collaboration I think is going to be amazing. Van Halen—it’s all over the place,” Jonas says. “It’s going to be a good show.”

And while hosts Chrissy Teigen and Ludacris are both known for their wit and big personalities, don’t think Jonas is nervous for any jokes that might come his way. “Chrissy and my girlfriend are actually pretty good friends so I’ve come to know her pretty well and she’s really sweet so any jokes they might have, I know they’re in good fun,” he says. “And I can laugh at myself.”

The 2015 Billboard Music Awards air Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
