  • Matt Bomer (White Collar) has joined an A-list cast for The Magnificent Seven remake. The film, a modern take on the 1960’s western, has a lineup that includes Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Wagner Moura, Haley Bennett and Jason Momoa. The story centers around seven gunslingers who help to defend an oppressed Mexican village. Bomer will play the husband of Bennett, a woman who hires the men to protect the town. [The Wrap]

  • Kate Beckinsale has signed on to reprise her vampire character, Selene, in Underworld 5. The franchise films’ plot details are being kept hush hush but it is said to focus on a new and younger generation of vampires and werewolves “who are locked in a seemingly never-ending battle between supernatural races.” The movie is set to shoot in Prague in October.   • Jim Carrey is in early talks to lead the indie thriller True Crimes, based on a 2008 New Yorker article by David Grann. The story follows a murder investigation that looks to clues that are found in an author’s book about a hauntingly similar crime. [The Wrap]

  • Chris O’Dowd is in negotiations to co-star with Julianne Moore in Nicole Holofcener’s Can You Ever Forgive Me. Holofcener will pen the script, based on the 2008 memoir by Lee Israel, a respected biographer who fell on hard times and began counterfeiting the letters of deceased writers and celebrities in order to pay her rent. When the forgeries raised suspicion, she started stealing the actual letters from library archives and selling them through an ex-con fence, all while the FBI was closing in on her. [Variety]

  • Elena Kampouris (Men, Women, and Children) has been cast in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, the sequel to the hit 2002 comedy written by its Oscar-nominated star Nia Vardalos. Vardalos will pen the script this time as well, for a story that will bring the Portokalos family together again for another wedding where a family secret is revealed. Kampouris will fit in with the crowd as the actress is half-Greek. [The Wrap]

  • Robert Sheehan (Mortal Instruments) will star opposite Hailee Steinfeld in the romantic drama The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, based on the 2013 YA novel which follows Hadley (Steinfeld) over a 24-hour period. What at first seems like a bad day as she waits at JFK for a flight to London for her father’s second wedding, picks up when she meets a young British lad (Sheehan). They end up being seated together on the plane and sparks fly. [Deadline]
