Mad Men teasers often do little teasing, with footage from the next episode cryptically cut together (the “Next Week on Mad Men” montages have led to a parody from The Simpsons and a tribute from Seth Meyers). But the final preview, despite showing no new footage, makes plenty of sense.

See, these are the times of Don Draper’s life, like a series of slides in a Kodak carousel: Betty and Sally and a picture-perfect family, Roger and Peter and a thriving Sterling Cooper, Peggy and Joan and all those tender little moments, and on and on and on until all that’s left of Dick Whitman as Don Draper is an empty apartment. It’s clear in this final preview, set to Paul Anka’s “Times of Your Life,” that Don has lived a tumultuous decade on television, and there’s plenty for him (and for us) to feel nostalgic about and to look back on. But when it comes to what’s ahead, well, who knows? We’ll have to wait for the last episode, airing this Sunday at 10 p.m. ET.
