Icelandic folk-pop outfit Of Monsters and Men is debuting the video for “Crystals” — the first single off their June 9 sophomore release, Beneath The SkinMonday. Led by Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir — with gold-flaked eyeshadow and metallic accents dripping from her lashes — overseeing her bandmates in an almost-Frankensteinian affair, the video is as captivating as its track. Appropriately, it’s tinged slightly darker than anything we might have seen for their 2012 debut, My Head Is an Animal. Beneath The Skin has fewer campfire songs—while still expansive and swollen with harmony, there’s less feel-good-for-the-sake-of-feeling-good fare.

As for the making of the video, the band was just happy to be working at home. Via a joint statement they said, “Working with Icelandic directors and an Icelandic crew was a new and enjoyable thing for us. Being able to communicate in Icelandic made this a relaxed experience. Now it’s time to share the video with the world and we hope people like it!”

(Don’t worry, Icelandic is not a requirement for viewing the below.)

Of Monsters and Men kicked off a world tour in support of Beneath The Skin last week. With festival stops at Sasquatch! Music Festival, Splendour in the Grass and Lollapalooza, the globe-trotting schedule is available on the band’s website. Beneath the Skin is currently available for pre-order. The group has so far released “Crystals” and “I Of The Storm” off the album.
