  • Oscar-nominee Laura Dern is in negotiations to star opposite Michael Keaton in The Founder, the dramatic tale of the rise of the McDonald’s fast food empire. Written by Robert Siegel (Big Fan), The Founder is a drama detailing the true story of how Ray Kroc (Keaton), an Illinois salesman, met Mac and Dick McDonald, the owners of a burger operation in 1950s Southern California. Kroc was impressed by the brothers’ quick service style and saw potential for a multi-billion-dollar franchise. Dern would play Ethel Kroc, the founder’s first wife who suffered through his business schemes and neglect. The pic is set for a Nov. 25, 2016 release. [The Hollywood Reporter]
  • Lily James (Cinderella) and Oscar-winner Christopher Plummer will be starring in The Kaiser’s Last Kiss, a film in which the notions of duty and the love of one’s country are pitted against the power of love itself. The film brings the Nazis face to face with their former Monarch, Kaiser Wilhelm (Plummer), during the 1940 invasion of Holland after his exile to the Netherlands in 1917. In an attempt to thwart the Nazis, the Dutch resistance work in secret with Winston Churchill to insert an agent into the Kaiser’s household. But a dangerous love affair begins between a German officer and a young Dutch Jewish woman (James) that will have unforeseen consequences. While the Nazis attempt to find and eliminate the agent to stop the potentially disastrous defection of their former leader to England, “the threads of history conspire with the recklessness of the heart to dumbfound them.” [The Wrap]

  • Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina) is attached to play the protagonist in the tech drama-thriller The Circle alongside Tom Hanks. The film is based on Dave Eggers‘ 2013 novel and centers on a recent college graduate (Vikander) who lands a gig at a powerful tech company called The Circle, which is co-owned by a charismatic man (Hanks).   • Abbie Cornish (Limitless) and Dermot Mulroney (August: Osage County) will be starring with Diego Klattenhoff (The Blacklist) in the psychological thriller Lavender. The film is about a photographer (Cornish) who is struggling with severe memory loss following an accident (Cornish). Strange clues in her photos start to suggest that she could be responsible for the deaths of family members she never knew she had. [The Wrap]

  • Liam Neeson is in final talks to star in the action film A Willing Patriot. Neeson would play a CIA agent who attempts to outsmart and capture a terrorist planning an attack. [Deadline]

  • The Godfather‘s James Caan and The Stanford Prison Experiment‘s Logan Miller and Keir Gilchrist are joining the indie thriller The Waiting. Mysterious events occur in in the film, in which two high school filmmakers decide to create the illusion of a haunting on their unsuspecting neighbor.   • Jim Broadbent will be starring in the drama The Sense of an Ending, director Ritesh Batra‘s follow-up to the acclaimed romantic drama The Lunchbox. Based on Julian Barnes’ Booker Prize-winning novel, Sense of an Ending centers around Tony Webster, who is presented with a mysterious legacy and dives back into his own history, forced to reassess his closest relationships and even revise his understanding of his own nature.
