NBC’s last bubble show mystery has been solved: The broadcaster has renewed cop dramedy The Mysteries of Laura for a second season.

The move marks the latest unlikely victory for the freshman series starring Debra Messing. When Mysteries premiered, critics earmarked it for a likely cancelation. After the show performed better than expected in a brutally tough Wednesday night slot, NBC gave the series a full season. Once spring rolled around, Mysteries was considered very much on the bubble for a pickup—averaging 9.3 million viewers, but only a 1.6 rating among adults 18-49.

As NBC made its verdicts for next season—including canceling three of its comedies—the fate of Mysteries remained unclear until late Friday night.
