Taylor Swift’s 1989 world tour kicks off at the end of the month in Bossier City, Louisiana, and 27-year-old “Riptide” singer Vance Joy is billed as the lanky, subversively folky male singer-songwriter opener for North American dates (James Bay and newcomer Shawn Mendes are also joining for select dates), which means he’s no doubt spending some time with the Swift catalog.

Maybe he just wants to make sure he’s prepared to sing along, at the top of his lungs, in the front row, a la Ms. Swift at every awards show ever, or maybe he just knows a well-written song when he finds one. Motivations aside, James Keogh (aka Vance Joy) released a video of himself covering “I Know Places” off 1989 and between his Aussie lilt and the pluck of his acoustic guitar, it’s easy to get lost in. Stream the video below.

Joy, who played both weekends at Coachella this year, is currently on the second single off his September 2014 debut Dream Your Life Away. He released the war-torn-with-a-twist music video for “Georgia” in March. He signed a five-album deal with Atlantic Records in 2013.
