Ian McKellen searches for the truth behind a 35-year-old mystery in Mr. Holmes
Sherlock Holmes may be well into his 90s, but he’s never been one to give up on a mystery. Such is the premise of Bill Condon’s new film Mr. Holmes, starring Ian McKellen as the famous detective who comes out of retirement to study an unsolved case from 35 years prior.
Although Holmes again dons his hat and smoking pipe to uncover the truth — fun fact, he actually prefers cigars — his aging mind isn’t what it used to be, and he must rely on help from a young, budding investigator (Milo Parker) to help pull the clues together.
“Imagine someone whose mental agility, the very thing he’s defined by, has now abandoned him,” Condon told EW earlier this year.
Mr. Holmes hits theaters July 17. Watch the latest trailer for the film above.
