In a week where Blur released a new album, a One Direction member indicated that the band might soon channel another ’90s Brit-pop legend.

“The boys we’ve been writing with have come up with some great, great songs,” Liam Payne told British radio station Capital FM. “Kind of like, a bit Oasis-y, almost, which is ace. I love that!”

Payne also indicated a mellower vibe for the upcoming album, which will follow 2014’s FOUR. “The songs have come out a bit more chill because I think we want this to be quite a long-lasting album that you can listen to any time,” he said. “Anytime you can thrown on an Ed [Sheeran] song and it can always make sense. We’re trying to do that.”

One Direction’s new record—and the first since Zayn Malik’s departure from the group last month—is shaping up to be quite eclectic. Payne has already been spotted with Juicy J and Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger this year.
