  • Jeff Daniels is in final negotiations to join the Divergent franchise for its final films, Allegiant Part 1 & 2. The movies will continue Lionsgate’s adaptation of the best-selling YA book series by Veronica Roth, starring Shailene Woodley as Tris, a girl who does not fall into any faction in her post-apocalyptic world and goes on to lead an uprising against the conformist society. Daniels will portray David, the leader of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, an agency behind the creation of the societies that Tris lived in and the reason behind their creation in the first place is revealed to be nefarious. Allegiant Part 1 will begin shooting in May and has a March 18, 2016 release date. [The Hollywood Reporter]

  • Alex Meraz (Twilight) has joined the cast of Warner Bros. and DC’s Suicide Squad. The David Ayer-directed film, which also stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto, is about a secret government agency which recruits supervillains to perform dangerous black ops missions. Meraz’s role is currently unknown. The film is currently in production in Toronto. [Variety]

  • Former Disney Channel star Stefanie Scott is co-starring in the revenge thriller I.T., starring Pierce Brosnan. Scott will play Brosnan’s daughter in the film, which follows the successful owner of a private jet business who finds himself on the wrong side of a young I.T. consultant who begins to stalk his daughter and use technology to threaten his family, business and life. The film will begin shooting in June in Ireland. [Deadline]

  • Marion Cotillard, Lea Seydoux, Vincent Cassel, Nathalie Baye and Gaspard Ulliel are all set to star in Xavier Dolan’s new drama It’s Only the End of the World, based on the play of the same name by Jean-Luc Lagarce. In the play a writer returns to his hometown, planning to announce his upcoming death to his family. Resentments reroute the course of the afternoon and people’s incapacity to listen and love one another derail all attempts at empathy. Production will begin at the end of May. [Variety]
