When Zayn Malik left One Direction last month to pursue a “normal” life, he not only broke the Internet but many fans’ hearts in the process.

But during a talk at the Sydney Opera House on Saturday, physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking — who appeared via hologram — comforted One Direction lovers by saying that based on theoretical physics Malik could still be a member of the boy band.

“My advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay attention to the study of theoretical physics because, one day, there may well be proof of multiple universes,” Hawking said in response to a fan-submitted question. “It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another, different universe and, in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction.”

And just like that, Hawking made physics cool for teenage girls.
