Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) will star in the thriller Shot Caller. Roman Waugh is set to direct the film, which follows a newly released inmate who is forced by the leader of his prison gang to plan a major crime with a rival gang on the streets of Southern California. Alexandra Daddario (San Andreas) has joined director William H. Macy‘s road-tripping sex-comedy The Layover. David Hornsby and Lance Krall penned the script, which follows two young girls who set out for a vacation, only to have a hurricane reroute their plane. Kal Penn will take on a lead role in the horror film The Girl In The Photographs, from executive producer Wes Craven. Craven protégé Nick Simon will be directing from a script he co-wrote with Oz Perkins and Robert Morast. The story is about Colleen, a bored girl in a small town, who is trying to distance herself from her abusive boyfriend. Two serial killers begin to leave her photo at the scene of their brutal crimes. Penn will portray Peter Hemmings, “a hipster celebrity photographer who has traveled back to his South Dakota hometown with a pack of models, intent on copying the killers’ intense and unapologetic artistry and use it for an important ad campaign. He resolves to use Colleen as the centerpiece of his campaign in Los Angeles.” Production is underway in Canada. [Deadline]
Sophie Tweed-Simmons, daughter of Gene Simmons, has signed on to the romantic drama Country Crush. The country musical will center around the aspiring singer Nancy (newcomer Madeline Merlo), who meets a country boy, Charlie (Munro Chambers), when her car breaks down. Charlie follows her back to New York to continue their romance all while her career takes off. Tweed-Simmons will play Ainsley, Nancy’s best friend who is weary about Nancy’s romance with Charlie. Zoolander 2 has added another name to its growing list of cast members. Ben Stiller announced via Instagram today that SNL cast member Kyle Mooney‘s will be joining the film, which is currently shooting in Rome.
