Shawn Mendes' 'Handwritten' debuts on Billboard 200 at No. 1
Shawn Mendes’ very first full-length album, Handwritten, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The 16-year-old is the youngest performer to have a No. 1 album since 2010, when Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 took the No. 1 spot on May 29 according to Billboard.
The Canadian singer rose to fame following a Vine cover of Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me” that amassed him 10,000 followers overnight. Within the next year, Mendes would release a self-titled EP in the summer of 2014, with his single “Life of the Party” debuting at No. 24 on the Hot 100. Today, he has nearly 4 million followers on Vine and his YouTube videos, including the video for his single “Something Big,” have garnered millions of views.
Mendes is currently touring and will join Taylor Swift on tour this summer.
